Discovery Park is designed to be Windler’s most dynamic destination. A nearly 24-acre park that cascades down a natural 25-foot grade from its Thrive Center and pool at the top, turning elevation into experience.

Set along one of the community’s major roadways – Denali Boulevard – this signature park isn’t hidden away on the edge of the neighborhood. It is strategically located to serve as the beating heart of Windler. Designed by Civitas: Landscape Meets Lifestyle

To bring Discovery Park to life, Windler’s development team tapped Civitas, a globally recognized urban design and landscape architecture firm known for transforming public spaces into purposeful places.

At the helm of Discovery Park is Craig Vickers, a principal with over 30 years of experience designing parks, public spaces, and urban environments that are as functional as they are meaningful. His work focuses on creating spaces that connect people with nature while supporting daily life.

Civitas’ design for Discovery Park intentionally blends active recreation, quiet moments, and multi-generational uses. It’s a place where kids can climb and play, neighbors can meet over coffee or craft beer, and families can cool off by the pool or take in the sunset together.

“Windler’s natural slope was never a constraint: it was an opportunity. The hillside terrain actually allowed us to create a really special sequence of experiences,” Vickers said. “From playful energy at the base to calm overlook moments at the top, Discovery Park gives you reasons to explore vertically and socially.”

A Unified Vision for Outdoor Living

Discovery Park is just one of Windler’s three major park amenities, and is part of a unique design strategy to stand out among other master-planned communities in Aurora and Colorado.

Rather than working with one firm to design all the parks, Windler’s development team assembled a team of three acclaimed land planning groups, each chosen for their distinct approach and creative strengths:

PCS Group, Inc. – Butterfly Park

While each park has its own personality, together they create a cohesive ecosystem of outdoor activity and how residents can make the most of our 300+ days of sunshine. From central gathering spaces to nature play, from pollinator gardens to historical storytelling, Windler’s parks offer something for every interest, every age, and every kind of Colorado lifestyle.

As Vickers noted, “Great communities aren’t just built, they’re designed with intention. And Windler is doing something that buyers today truly appreciate: treating parks and gathering spaces not just as amenities, but as the foundation of community life.”

Construction is underway on Discovery Park, and its central position along the new Denali Boulevard makes it impossible to miss. As the park takes shape, its scale and its myriad opportunities for discovery are becoming undeniable. “This is a huge park,” said Vickers. “I’ll lose myself often when I come to check on construction progress. It’s almost like I have to remind myself where I am because there are so many special gathering areas and trails and accents – grand and intimate.”

That sense of exploration is no accident. “We wanted to do something different; something unique,” Vickers explained. “A place that offers a new experience each time you visit.”
