Aurora Celebrates Completion of New E-470 and 48th Avenue Interchange

This new strategic connection point enhances connectivity points for homes, businesses, and local employers

Aurora, Colo., – Windler, a new master-planned community in Aurora, and the E-470 Public Highway Authority today marked the completion of its newest interchange at E-470 and 48th Avenue with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This infrastructure project represents a significant milestone in improving regional connectivity and supporting Aurora’s rapid growth. This project completes the new E-470 interchanges in Aurora.

“The completion of the 48th Avenue interchange is a key milestone for E-470 and the surrounding region,” said Joe Donahue, Executive Director of the E-470 Public Highway Authority. “This project enhances connectivity and demonstrates the power of public-private collaboration in supporting growth, mobility, and development in the Windler area. We’re proud to help lay the foundation for the region’s future.”

The newly constructed interchange provides crucial access to Aurora’s expanding northeastern communities, including the developing areas of Windler, Painted Prairie, and High Point. The project features new on and off ramps and a widened bridge at 48th Avenue, designed to accommodate increasing traffic demands in the region.

Chris Fellows from GVP Windler remarked, “The completion of this interchange is a crucial component in our area’s development strategy, providing essential connectivity for both residential and commercial growth for Windler and the surrounding communities in the Aerotropolis area.”

The project is part of E-470’s comprehensive improvement plan supporting the development of current and future communities and job growth. The interchange will serve as a vital connection point for the expanding Aerotropolis region. The region is governed by the Aerotropolis Regional Transportation Authority (ARTA), which oversees transportation and infrastructure improvements. ARTA is made up of Adams County, the City of Aurora, and the Aerotropolis Area Coordinating Metropolitan District (AACMD).
