The Windler Homestead is being reimagined as 1881 Park, a space that honors the original Windler Farmhouse, silos, and barn. Though the farmhouse was tragically lost to fire in 2005, the charred brick shell will be given new life as a community gathering space. The barn and the Milk House from the late 1800s will also be revitalized, making 1881 Park a true link between history and modern living. We’re talking a massive owl play structure and places to gather, eat, grab a beer, and let the kids (and dogs) run wild.

Three Signature Parks to Enrich Life at Windler

The three major parks at Windler — 1881 Park, Discovery Park, and Butterfly Park — are uniquely designed to inspire, bringing people together for play, relaxation, and connection. All of these parks will be along the Windler Loop, a 1-mile urban trail corridor that provides an easy, comfortable walk through the community. 

1881 Park

1881 Park is a celebration of heritage and recreation, featuring community gardens, a dog park, and even a beach area with sand and hammock groves. The park will also feature a campground with tent sites, picnic areas, fire pits, and bike opportunities for all ages, including a pump track, a teen bike skills course and a training wheels course for little ones.

The barn and silos, painted with colorful murals, will serve as gathering spots for events, while the beer garden at Anna’s Place will offer a welcoming spot for neighbors to meet. And don’t forget about The Orchard and its meandering trails, which provide a peaceful retreat among grassy, tree-dotted fields. With a large lawn perfect for outdoor movie nights and courts for volleyball games, 1881 Park is the ideal backdrop for nostalgic evenings with family and friends.

Discovery Park

The largest park in Windler, Discovery Park is all about exploration and connection. Here you’ll find a multi-tiered and multi-faceted park experience that follows the natural topography. Ripe with another beer garden as well as a pavilion, dog park, promenade, and The Knolls—a forested area filled with boulders and tall grass to encourage play with nature. The park will also feature courts, a walkable parterre garden area, and a scenic overlook with breathtaking views of the snow-capped Rockies.

Discovery Park will also be home to Windler’s community center that’s a grand open gathering space adjacent the beer garden. Just outside is a sparkling pool where you can relax in the sunshine or get in your impact-free exercise. This hub of social activity will provide residents with a crown-jewel place to come together and enjoy the best of Windler.

Butterfly Park

Perched on the highest point in the community, Butterfly Park offers stunning views and a whimsical environment. This themed park features colorful pollinator gardens, gravel paths, and larger-than-life sculptures of butterflies that seem to float through the air.

But the magic doesn’t stop there—Butterfly Park will also feature a custom bee play structure, a multi-purpose field for sports and recreation, and a mini dog park, so even your four-legged family members can join in on the fun. And thanks to Windler’s partnership with the Butterfly Pavilion, residents can look forward to special events like butterfly releases, educational programs, and a mobile zoo.
